Pineapple Passion Fruit Juice And A Tropical Dream Smoothie Recipe

There is hardly any juicer on the market that does not come with its own recipe book, and there is hardly any juicer owner who does not create his or her own juice recipes.

Like most people I make juices that have more than two or three ingredients, but sometimes I crave for something as simple as one- or two-ingredients juice. My pineapple passion fruit juice is one such creation. It is absolutely divine, but if you decide to make the way I made it, it is nothing you will be making in the morning before you go to work. My method is a bit laborious but it pays off. There is a simpler way to make it, but the taste will not be the same. You can trust me on that.

Ingredients:
  • flesh of 1 1/2 - 2 ripe pineapples, chilled
  • 1 lb ripe passion fruits (purple granadillas)

Tools:
  • sharp knife
  • wide mouthed jar
  • sieve
  • spoon
  • juicer

Method:
  • Wash and pat dry granadillas. Place a sieve over a wide mouthed jar. Cut each fruit in half over the  sieve resting. Juice will start flowing as soon as you cut the fruit. Scoop fruit flesh out of each half and using back of the spoon, pass it through the sieve. Move your spoon in circular motion. This will allow the juice to flow freely into your jar. Work your way through till all granadillas are processed. Depending on how ripe and juicy your fruits are, you should be able to collect about 3 oz of pure, undiluted passion fruit juice. Do not discard the remaining fruit pulp. Transfer it into a clean container and put it in the fridge.
  • Feed your juicer with chilled pineapple chunks and make pure pineapple juice. Remember, the riper your fruit, the sweeter your juice.
  • Add passion fruit juice into the juice carafe and stir well. Pour the juice into tall glasses and enjoy in good company!

I used my Breville centrifugal juicer to juice pineapples. The leftover fruit pulp was quite wet and I decided to use it in another recipe. I also saved the passion fruit pulp. The seeds can be eaten. In fact, the seeds are often used in Brazil to decorate desserts.

I used leftover fruit pulp because I believe that in a raw food kitchen nothing should go to waste but, of course, the smoothie can be made from fresh fruits if you prefer.
